I’ve been a Logitech fan for years and their products are usually good.
This portable speaker system is unfortunately a disappointment for me due to the following:
1. It ships only with (1) iPod base socket which probably fits an iPod nano. This is unacceptable for a $65 product. They should include at least a couple of these pieces of plastic that would fit different size iPods.
2. The speakers have no remote. Other cheaper systems come with a very basic remote control that would help you to turn the volume up and down and to skip songs. This is again unacceptable.
It does have an OK sound quality but it is just Ok, not outstanding.
Find something cheaper out there. To be honest, this is worth probably $25….

Logitech have a way of seeing what is needed in any given area and bringing it to fruition. Hence the Logitech
Portable Speakers are the most obvious product for personal use in this kind of area. I have a 2 dollar radio about
the same size as this unit, and whilst it is not as sturdy, it has lasted. Most products will last if taken care of, and Logitech’s products are no exception to this rule, however, since they are somewhat,in fact a great deal more sturdy, than my old radio. The comparable product in quality is the old style Shelf Speaker popular in the 80′s, called the brick, but this unit does not have the weight of that product. The speakers perform very well, and with the bass boost, the sound fills outs exceedingly well. For a small, portable , unit, this allows you to listen to, as well as share Ipod music, and podcasts, in an intimate setting. An excellent product with excellent and typically superb Logitech production values.

This device can not be any easier to use. You plug it into the wall. You put your iPod in the slot on the top, and then you play whatever content you wish on your iPod and the sound comes out the speaker. Your iPod charges automatically whenever you seat it in the device. It can run off a wall outlet (adapter included) or AA batteries (not included).
Any model after the very old 3rd gen iPods will work this way–all mp3 players will work through an audio cable (not included, but available at most computer stores and office supply stores–something likeCables To Go – 21062 – 6ft 3.5mm M/M Stereo Audio Cable (Black)) between this device and the headphone jack of the mp3 player.
The sound quality is fabulous and the volume control offers a wide range from soft to play in a sleeping baby’s room for some comforting background noise, to powerful enough to fill a fairly large room.
It’s takes up very little room and would be perfect on the corner of a desk or on a nightstand. I can’t think of a thing that would make this device any better.

This is a product with definite pros and cons. When the package arrived, I was amazed at how light it was. This can be really good or really bad….as in: have they figured out how to get a big sound out of a very small, light weight instrument…or is it just cheap looking and sounding. The answer to that question is: a little of both actually. I am fairly impressed with the sound–especially the extra bass. Does it sound as good as the other Logitech system I bought two years ago which is larger and heavier? No. But this system also costs a lot less–so it’s OK for what you get. The ease of operation would lend itself even to children’s use.
I understand that there is supposed to be a piece that goes on the docking station to accommodate different size iPods. My box did not come with one–just an oversight, I assume. It still holds different size iPods OK–just looks sort of cheesy. I believe it will work with the iPhone as well–even charges it.

I am quite pleased with this little speaker set. Recently, I had cause to go speaker shopping, looking for a good iPod speaker for my niece’s graduation. She was very specific in what she wanted for her dorm: a lightweight, movable speaker that would charge with decent sound. This would have filled the bill beautifully.
Note that I’m not calling this “portable,” as it bills itself. It *is* portable…you can move it from one room to another…but for real portability, you’d want a sturdier unit for cradling your expensive iPod–a boombox with a good handle. A speaker set like this is best settled place to place for a while…parked in an office or bedroom and moved periodically, but not really carried around. The iPod isn’t that secure (at least, mine isn’t).
Also, the sound is not huge. The bass booster is a nice feature that makes this unit feel more powerful than it is, but it is really intended for small spaces. It’s got decent volume, but in a large room it’s going to get lost. It’s not your party music player, either; just a nice, compact personal player.
For ease of use, I’ve got little cause to complain, but we had a bit of trouble settling the 80 gb iPod video we tested in it. In fact, for one disappointing moment, I thought we weren’t going to be able to get it to work–no sound at all. We soon found that our iPod seated better without any adapter, and while it isn’t as stable as I would like (again, if it were truly portable), it plays just fine.
If what you’re looking for is a very compact, charger speaker that is well suited to small spaces, then this one could be a good contender. I believe it has decent sound in comparison to other units of its size and price point. If you’re looking for true mobility, you should consider getting a boombox instead. And remember that sometimes you *do* get what you pay for. There are certainly units with better sound. My husband’s Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Compact Speaker system for iPod is undeniably better (though larger and more than twice the price). And my Altec Lansing inMotion portable system is an entirely different class…at many times the cost.
But for my 12 year old son, this is ideal. I suspect my college-bound niece would have been pleased as well.
