This JVC Kaboom is not an Urban Assault 52 watt, but was not marketed as so. This is a large sized Kaboom. It’s got most features from the early 2000′s models but downsized to 40 watts.

It obviously has an iPod dock instead of a cassette player. Of course it also plays CD’s and CD-R’s/RW’s.

If you are looking for a large sized, new model boombox then this is the best one on the market today. If you are looking to replace your early 2000′s Kaboom and it still in good shape I would advise against it.

It comes down to one question; would you go to McDonald’s today and buy a large sized Big Mac meal, or not go at all because you can’t Supersize it?

I have owned the JVC RV-NB 10 Kaboom and now I own the JVC RV-NB 50 Kaboom. The new RV-Nb 50 Kaboom is a well designed, innovative and powerful boombox worthy of the kaboom name. This is not a second rate stereo system when put against its older peers, and in fact, rises above them in many ways. First, the sound quality is exceptional, the volume levels are amazing and the bass on this system is just as pounding as the RV-NB 10 was. This system is not cheaply manufactured. The overall feel of the unit is both durable and very strong. It doesn’t weigh as much as the older Kaboom models, but it is still a little much to tote around everywhere. The dimensions are just a bit smaller and I know that for certain because this unit is sitting on the very same table top as the kaboom I had there before. If you are on the fence about this model-jump off and buy it. It plays Ipod, MP3 CD, USB media and does so with ease and sophistication. Also, this unit charges Ipods very rapidly. I was impressed. This unit is undeserving of the negative posts about it being inferior in quality to its predecessors-this is just not the case. I have owned two Kabooms now and hands down, this is the best of them. Get to boomin’!

ok.. i have been waiting for this Kaboom to finally make it to the states.. i received mine today.. some things to mention.. this is a 40 watt kaboom.. not the 52 watt older kaboom.. the side firing subs are also smaller.. if you love the deep deep bass of prior Kaboom models.. dont buy this one.. if you like moderate “in your face” mid/bass.. then this Kaboom is for you.. it’s almost the same size as older kabooms.. and has a managable wieght.. so carrying it around wont break your back.. item is “MADE IN CHINA” unlike older kabooms that were solidly biult in Malaysia.. and it shows.. cheaper plastics and parts were used in this Kaboom..

item lacks the durable shoulder strap/remote holder from previous Kabooms.. it’s now a funky strap/plastic lachy thingy.. it also does not come with batteries for the remote.. a sign of cheapness.. is it worth $300? nope.. $150-$180 perhaps.. IPOD intergration is simple at best.. it does simpe functions.. but it’s not fully intergrated.. but the main reason i bought it is that it protects the IPOD from damage.. this it does well.. i did not try the USB input.. but i’m sure it works as intended..

bottom line.. if you want the BASS that Kabooms were known for.. this will not fill that void.. stick with the older units

but if you want a nice compact carry anywhere self contained boombox for your IPOD this will do fine.. it does get plenty loud..

sign of the times.. the day of quality electronics is no more..
