The otterbox case is great!!! It adds a little to the size of the phone because of the thickness of the rubber used...yes it is like car rubber not silicone, which tears easily. It gives the phone a non slip feel since it is lightly textured. All ports are easily accessible, the front screen is given lots of protection in case it fall face first. Camera and flash port exposed enough but also protected.

Greetings. I ordered this case because I wanted maximum protection with minimum bulk, as I have a nice Evo belt case that fits the iPhone 4 with clear plastic cases. This OtterBox Impact case does indeed offer excellent protection, since the sides and back are covered with solid rubber, and the front home button and top areas (with appropriate cutouts for speaker and proximity sensor) also are protected. The rear camera/flash cutout is extra large, so that it will not interfere with flash output. Very nice! The only real improvement I might suggest is that the sides are not exactly a "snug" fit. They still offer protection, but a finger can easily move the sides out a millimeter, just enough to see the edge of the iPhone. I think that if the case were just .5 mm narrower, that might make for a better fit side to side. I do like the thickness of the rubber around the front display, as a drop onto a flat surface would likely not damage the iPhone's display. One other point...The included screen protector does not have a cutout for the proximity sensor! I was assured by OtterBox that all their other cases have a similar screen protector with no adverse effects, but more than one Apple rep has told me that all problems they've heard regarding the proximity sensor involve screen protectors with no cutout! Being a photographer and familiar with optics and light, I can believe that there may be some slight internal reflection with a screen protector over the proximity sensor that interferes with its proper function. Who knows. I say get a screen protector WITH a cutout for the proximity sensor, and you surely won't have an issue. Overall though, a Quality case that gives one a secure feeling that the device is well-protected! Now to find a good belt case to accept this OtterBox Impact case!

First of all, the Impact is a great case and worth the money. No question, my iPhone would survive being dropped while wearing this case. In that aspect of the mission, OtterBox has succeeded. Great shock absorption and drop protection.

But this case has the same issue practically every other full-body silicone or 'candy-shell' silicone case has: it traps heat like crazy. Your iPhone gets hot while it's charging and warm while doing any serious web stuff or even a long phone conversation.

Heat kills.

I went back to the bumper because of this--I'm in a two-year commitment with AT&T with this phone, and I need the battery to last the whole two years. Read the fine print, and you'll see Apple recommends you charge your iPhone out of the case. Why do they do this? Because they know the state-of-the-art li-po battery they make for this phone will die a slow, painful death if subjected to too much heat over a sustained period.

They have built circuitry into your phone to stop charging when the batt is topped off, to keep this crucial component safe.

I suggest you get a case that has heatsink properties, or has plenty of cooling airflow between the gadget and the case--or remove your iphone for charging.

Fatal flaw number 2: this thing is FAT FAT FAT. Now, if that's the look you are going for, more power to ya. I'd rather just use AppleCare as my "case" and go naked with nothing more than front and back skins than use most of the cases out there. I use the bumper for impact protection, and it has saved my bacon already a couple times. Combined with AppleCare my phone is well protected, and I'm willing to risk AppleCare service to my phone rather than carry this case. IT DOUBLES THE SIZE OF THE PHONE, FOR GOD'S SAKE.

If you don't mind carrying twice as much phone as you bargained for, and are willing to remove your phone for charging, this could be the everyday case for you.

All that said, I'm keeping this case. I don't need this much protection every day, but at the airport, geocaching, etc. there are situations where the Impact is just fabulous and if you need that kind of occasional protection, this case will get you there!

Bought my iPhone 4 recently and was doing some research on cases for the iPhone. I did also personally check with one to many iPhone users who have used several other products and tried their cases on mine. The various products I tried either were flimsy, bulky, ugly looking and bad design. After some extensive research for such a small thing, I purchased this Incipio iPhone 4 case.

What really surprised me is the simplicity of the product and yet something that offers everything I needed.

Pros
1. Clean cover and finish (no finger prints)
2. Easy and precise access to all controls (all sides of the phone)
3. Solid Protection and cushioning
4. Firm grip to the phone
5. Scratch resistant (so far haven't had any, my usage is quite rough)

Cons (if you think that protecting your investment is more important, then this may not be a con for you)
1. Adds about 3-4 mm thickness to the phone, but not too much considering other products
2. Looses the side and the back beauty of the product as it is Matte Black
3. Does not offer front screen protection, you may need to protect it with some other screen protection product

Well, for the amount I paid, I think it offers more than what I needed. Its been only 2 weeks of usage so far and hope to test it some more time. Will post some updates after some rough use.

I will certainly recommend this product to users who need a simple and easy to use product to protect their iPhone.

Update - 12/21/2010

One drawback I noticed is that when I tried to plug in non conventional 3.5mm pins for audio out, the pin was not firmly inserted in. I guess the thickness of the material as well as the gap for the hole does not let the pin to be firmly placed. I had to remove the cover and plug the pin in. If you use non conventional audio out, you might want to think twice. Still recommend this product, as it provides great protection and cushion to the phone.

I just bought this case, so I can't comment on it's durability (hence 4 stars) but I am very happy so far. I have the Verizon iPhone and this case fits without an issue. The ringer silence button is a little close to the edge of the available window, but it is definitely fully accessible. The rest of the buttons/openings are in the right places.

My search for the best "everyday" iP4 case may finally be over. After having tried several other cases (listed below) and reading reviews of even more, the Incipio NGP Matte is the closest to meeting my needs.

Tested:
* Apple Bumper- Minimal protection. Reports of scratching steel band and streching after continual use.
* Griffin Reveal Etch- Very nice look and feel, but rubber sides were too loose for my liking.
* Speck Candyshell- Confident about its protection, but too bulky, scratch-prone, and incompatible with most pin connectors.
* Incipio Silicrylic- Precise fit and compatability. Silicone layer picks up lint (removed easily, but still...).

Incipo NGP Matte
Pros
- Perfect fit.
- Perfect balance of grip/slickness. Does not attract dust/lint.
- Clean looks.
- Does not hamper LED flash performance.
- Easy to operate phone controls.
- Superb compatability with 3rd party docks and connectors.
- Material is tough to scratch.
- Easy to install/remove.
- Good size lip to lift front screen off surfaces.
- Thick material provides both shock and puncture protection.
- Compatible with screen protectors.

Cons
- Case shows marks from being removed from mold (some more than others).
- Thicker than Apple Bumper

If you can live with the slight blemish*, the NGP Matte provides the ideal balance between protection, size, grip, and function. It is easy to put in and out of pockets, provides excellent grip/feel without picking up unecessary dirt/lint and offers clean lines to enhance its attractiveness. The best "everyday" case I have tested so far.

*Mold marks may even be removed with careful dremeling. Proceed at your own risk.

Good product, highly recommended.
The only drawback I've encountered is that it didn't protect the screen.
The border should be a little bit more high.
But besides that, the case is great, the volume and power holes are very good located and the appearance is very elegant.

The reality of this case is:
+ it's hard so offers better protection for fragile iPhone
+ has a good solid feel once installed on iPhone
+ it has nice concept of replicating back of iPhone
- it's hard so it's a pain to put on / take off
- opening for camera and flash too small which reflects light back into lens causing washed out photos
- semi-transparent plastic sides make iPhone look less elegant once installed

Bottom line...I bought it..wanted to like it...but ended up not using it.
