A long while back, I was heavy into super nintendo emulation. I really wanted a true to system experience. I wanted a controller in my hand. I went out and bought a cheap general computer controller. That one was… Okay. Mostly, I was disappointed with that one because of the D-Pad. Whenever I would press down, I’d go right. When I’d press up, I’d go left. I had decided that the only way to fix it would to find an actual super nintendo controller with a usb port. I was really excited when I got this one. I ripped it out of the box to instant apprehension. The controller feels completely cheap in your hands. It’s a bright white. On the back is a fairly sizable sticker that reads, “MADE IN CHINA.” I went and downloaded an emulator and rom onto someone else’s computer to test it out. To my complete disappointment: The D-pad was terrible. Up = Up-Left. Down = Down-Right. I’m really upset because someone gifted this to me. Someone spent money on me for this piece of junk. I would not recommend this to anybody that wants to be immersed into a game. Do some research on a good SNES controller, and then buy a controller port to usb port converter. That’s my only hope for now. The funniest part about the controller is that the box it comes in says “eight quality buttons.” Count with me, here: L & R is 2. Start & Select is 2. A, B, X, & Y is 4. Up, Down, Left, & Right is 4. That’s twelve buttons. They don’t even guarantee that this thing is awesome on the box. Final details: Cheap plastic. Cheap wire. Terrible marketing. Bad programming. Not worth the purchase.

  • I am really dissapointed. I was so excited to play all my games and when I got the controller I pulled it out and plugged it in only to find that the directional pad on it doesn’t work for two of the four directions. I am very upset about this. That will be the last time that I order electronics through amazon. I would return it but I am refusing to pay for the postage to return it. What a waste of money. I have ordered a lot of electronics and other merchandise through amazon and thought it to be a good resource but now I am rethinking that.

  • I’ve been using this controller for awhile now. I wanted to break it in to make sure I was really dissatisfied with it and yep; I am. I had to be absolutely fair when I reviewed this one so I took my time and played with it for several weeks before I decided my final verdict.

I’ll take you through my experience and my disappointments step by step. When I open the package I could tell it’s just barely similar in shape and color to a real SNES controller. I didn’t care about the aesthetics at all, but it was already off to a bad start. Fiddling with the buttons I could already feel a terrible distinction between the real SNES and this cheap knock-off. I ran over and grabbed a real controller to make sure I wasn’t fooling myself. The real SNES controller felt smooth and easy to push. You just barely push the buttons and they work flawlessly. This controller, however, felt stiff and the buttons were elevated almost twice as high as the real buttons. I plugged in the controller and it was recognized correctly. I loaded up an emulator and tested it out. After about 5 minutes of playing I got a terrible hand cramp and I had to put the controller down. For NES games like Super Mario Bros that required holding down one button and pressing another, it was literally impossible to play.

The initial disappointment of the product really made it feel like a gut-wrenchingly bad purchase. After playing with it for a few weeks the stiff buttons loosened up a little bit, but it just feels like this is a money-making endeavor. Absolutely no care has been put into this product and it shows. For true Nintendo fans, you are much better off with just using a real controller and a USB adapter.

I recently purchased this product: SNES Controller Adapter for PC USB. It was instantly more gratifying to use a real controller instead of this fake knock-off.

I was hesitant to purchase this gamepad as ive heard many bad reviews about many of the usb snes/nes gamepads. But since this one had decent reviews, i gave it a shot. I Purchased it from the seller SethCo, and they sent me the gamepad. It was a Tomee brand, not the retrolink ones that ive heard were awful. As soon as i plugged it in, my windows 7 immediately recognized it, and it took maybe 10 seconds to map the buttons in my emulator. The pad works EXACTLY as i remember the snes pad used to work, no issues whatsoever. Buttons and case seem to be close to the same durable plastic that the original snes pads were made of, and the dpad doesnt stick or anything like ive heard the others do. I recommend this gamepad 100%, and definitely recommend you purchase it from SethCo, it was the least expensive and i got it in 3 days. And you wont have to worry about getting one of the dreadful retrolink ones other places might send you. Tomee makes an nes usb pad i heard was just as good, and i just ordered it from sethco as well. Get them both, you wont regret it!

I bought two of these so me and my friends could play together and haven’t been disappointed. The buttons feel right, I like the white color, and it was a breeze to plug in and use. Definitely recommend. Be careful though, the cord is heavier then the controller itself so it can easily fall off your lap if you’re not careful. It’s light so it probably won’t suffer much damage but you still don’t want to be dropping it every ten seconds like I have been.
